akronSuspect soughtAKRON: Akron police detectives on Friday requested the public’s help in identifying the man who robbed the Dollar General store on Mogadore Road about 1 p.m. Saturday.According to police, the robber entered the store, walked around and selected merchandise. As he got to the front registers, he told the clerk he forgot milk.The robber then walked behind the counter and placed a sharp object in the clerk’s back. He said he had a gun and demanded money.Police said the clerk opened the register, and the robber reached in and took an undetermined amount of cash. He then fled in a blue sedan.The robber is described as a black male with short hair and a goatee, 29 to 36 years old, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-9 and weighing 250 to 300 pounds. Akron man arrestedAKRON: Akron police are crediting an alert neighbor with helping them apprehend a burglary suspect Thursday.Police responded to the 400 block of Greenwood Avenue about 2 p.m. after a neighbor called them. He said he had seen a man walking around his neighbor’s house, then heard the sound of breaking glass.Arrested was Ja’Montae Sullivan Walker, 18, of Noah Avenue in Akron. He was charged with burglary and booked into the Summit County Jail.Detectives said they are investigating whether Walker could be responsible for other burglaries in the area. Call 330-688-3295 ext. 5, or stop by the information desk to register.Summit countyTheft ring bustedAKRON: The Summit County Sheriff’s office says it has completed its investigation of an organized group of more than 50 people who allegedly stole merchandise from several stores.Authorities say the culprits would return the items for store credit, then sell the in-store merchandise cards. The merchandise taken included clothing, tools and material for building and repairing homes.The thefts, with an estimated value of more than $200,000, occurred primarily at Lowes, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Wal-Mart and Home Depot stores. The stores targeted by the ring were located in Summit, Medina, Cuyahoga, Portage, Franklin, and Hamilton counties in Ohio and locations in Pennsylvania and New York. Authorities say the thieves used the money and materials to refurbish three homes in Shaker Heights, East Cleveland and Bratenahl. The homes were seized, as well as five vehicles that may have been used in the thefts and transportation of stolen goods. Those arrested include Dawn Haynes, 37, and Khalil Abdur, 42, both of Bratenahl. They were booked into the Summit County Jail.Warrants were issued for Anthony Jones, 50, of Solon, and Darrell Makupson, 31, Khalid Aycocks, 38, Kamal Abdullah, 36, and Lindy Okuly, 33, all of Shaker Heights.
